Snapchat has decided to roll back its plans for a simplified design, following a decrease in North American users. The company’s Q1 2025 earnings report revealed a loss of 1 million users in North America, dropping its daily active users to 99 million. Earlier, Snapchat had been testing a redesign that aimed to simplify its interface by removing certain tabs, including the Snap Map and private chats tab. However, after months of testing and user feedback, Snap decided to abandon this design, as it saw reduced engagement and increased frustration among users.

Snap found that its most engaged users still preferred the original five-tab layout, which had become a staple of the app’s interface. In particular, the Snap Map and a dedicated tab for messaging were essential for maintaining the app’s functionality. Consequently, Snap is now testing a new, "refined" version of the layout that combines the best features of both the old and new designs.
